Expression of CD117 in gastrointestinal stromal tumors and their significance

- Abstract: Purpose: To explore the differential diagnostic value of CD117 in gastro intestinal stromal tumors ( GIST). Methods: 91 cases of GIST and 72 cases of control tumors were detected by a set of antibodies of CD117, CD34, a-SMA, S-100 etc. Results: Almost all of the GIST expressed CD117, the positive rate was 96.7%; Leiomyomas, Schwannomas and control tumors were negative for CD117, the tumors which expressed CD34 such as dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans and epithelioid sarcoma and others were also negative for CD117. Conclusions: CD117 was a sensitive marker for GIST, it plays an important role in the differential diagnosis of gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors.
