TAXOL COMBINATION CHEMOTHERAPY IN THE TREATMENT OF ADVANCED CANCER

Abstract:
PURPOSETo evaluate the effects and toxicites of combination chemotherapy of taxol, cisplatin and 5-flu-ouracil for the patients with advanced cancer. METHODS 7 cases /19 courses were administered by systematic chemotherapy, Taxol was given 150 mg-180 mg by intravenous (i. v.) infusion on day 1. cisplatin 40 mg i. v. on days 2 - 4. 5-fluouracil 750mg i. v. on days 2 - 4. 5 cases /13 courses were administered by intraperitoneal chemotherapy . Taxol was given 150-180 mg by intraperitoneal(i. p.) infusion on day 1. cisplatin 60 mg-100mg i. p. on day 1, 5-fluouracil 1000 mg i. p. on day 1. Course was repeated every four weeks. RESULTS Two patients showed complete response (16. 67%), eight patients showed partial response (66. 66%). the overall response rate was 83. 33%. The major toxic effects were myelosuppression, alopecia, arthralgra and myalgia. CONCLUSIONS Taxol, cisplatin. 5-fluouracil regimen is an effective treatment for patients with advanced cancer with acceptable side-effects.
