Abstract:
A Large-dosage vitamin C was used for treating head injuries in 24 male cats. The animals were randomly divided into three groups: the injured, control, vitamim C group. A dose of 200mg/kg of vitamim C were injected intravenously at once and 6 hours after injury. The neuropeptides in the plasma and CSF were measured. The results showed that the neuropeptides were lower significantly in vitamin C group than head-injured group. It suggests that large-dosage vitamin Cmay reduce the secondary brain damge and cerebral edema after head injury.
