The Influence of Parental Rearing Styles of Medical Students with IAD on Their Mental Health

Abstract:
Objective: To study whether parental rearing styles of medical students with IAD are related to their mental health, in order to provide foundation for the prevention and control of IAD. Method: Medical students in grade 1 to 4 in Chongqing Medical University were assessed with SCL-90, EMBU, Internet Addiction Disorder Test,and a compare analysis was made for IAD group and non-IAD group. Results: 6.49% subjects can be defined as IAD according to their testing scores of Internet Addiction Disorder Test. The results of EMBU demonstrated that students in IAD group got more punishment, negation and less care or understanding than those in non-IAD group. The results of SCL-90 demonstrated that IAD group got higher scores than non-IAD group. Parental rearing styles of medical students with IAD are related to their mental health. Conclusion: Medical students with IAD got more punishment, negation and less care or understanding,and have lower mental health than those with non-IAD. Negative parental rearing styles of medical students with IAD have bad effects on their development of normal mentality. Parents should pay more attention to their rearing styles.
