Abstract:
The results of a cross-sectional study on risk factors causing low birth weight in 5204 pregnant women in Can Tho showed that low pre-gravid BMI in pregnant women was risk factor of low birth weight of their babies. The low birth weight rate from mothers with low pre-pregnant BMI (<18.5) was higher than that of the mothers with pre-pregnant BMI greater than 20 (13.52% ± 1.65% vs. 6.61% ± 1.23%) The low birth weight rate in rural pregnant women with pre-pregnant BMI from 18.5 to 19.99 was higher than that of urban pregnant women
