Abstract:
Medical informatics is a science dealing with the storage,retrieval and optimal use of information, data and knowledge of biomedicine so that decisions could be made and problems solved in the process of health management, clinical control and knowledge analysis. It is an interdisciplinary subject involving the sciences of information technology and medical health, the former being its methodology and the latter its sphere of application. By analyzing the history., current situation and future challenges of medical informatics, the paper discusses the development strategies for medical informatics in China. In order to put the development of medical mformafics in China in line with international standards and make it fit in with the needs of modern society, it is imperative to speed up the training of a contingent of personnel in medical informatics, step up international and domestic cooperation and exchanges, give priority to research on the theories and applications of basic medical informatics, and establish and perfect a series of relevant criteria.
