Abstract:
Objective To assess the value of plug mesh tension free hernia repair in the treatment of abdominal external hernia. Methods 123 tension free repairs of hernia in 115 patients performed in our hospital from April 1988 to May 2000 were retrospectively reviewed. 50 4% (58/115) of cases were complicated by diseases such as cardiopulmonary dysfunction, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, prostate hypertrophy, cirrhotic ascites and thrombocytopenia. Results All patients had healing by first intention with no incisional infection or death , and they were discharged 3～7 days after operation(90% of patients were discharged 3 days after operation).90 4% of patients were followed up with an average of 20 months (1～25 months). There was no recurrence during the follow up.Conclusion Plug mesh tension free repair has the advantages of less trauma, little postoperative discomfort, rapid recovery and low recurrent rate.
