Survey of hope and its influencing factors among nurses in tertiary general hospitals

Abstract:
Objective To describe the status quo of hope among nurses in tertiary general hospitals and to explore its influencing factors. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted. The Hope Status Scale, the Nurse′s Job Stressor Scale and self-designed demographic questionnaire were delivered to 1 160 nurses from nine hospitals. Results The score of hope scale was 23.05 ± 6.16. Different gender (t=2.045, P=0.004), age (F=7.193, P=0.000), marital status (t=2.806, P=0.005), length of employment (F=11.421, P=0.000), department (F=2.394, P=0.015), monthly income (F=5.351, P=0.001), participate in extracurricular activities (F=37.448, P=0.000) reached a statistically significant level. A significantly negative correlation was found between hope and work stress of nurses (r=-0.233, P=0.000);Logistic regression results showed that participating in extracurricular activities, length of employment, monthly income, departments and job stressors were major influencing factors of hope state of nurses. Conclusions More attention should be paid to the improvement of nurse′s hope. According to the influencing factors of hope, measures should be taken to strengthen the level of hope.
