- Abstract: Objective To investigate the causes of death, the trend of mortality of main diseases, change of disease spectrum of residents in Zhongshan Torch Development Zone during 2009 to 2013 so as to work out strategies and measures for prevention and treatment of diseases.Methods The data of death causes of residents in the zone based on international disease classifications, ICD-10 were statistically treated with DeathReg 2005 software.Re-sults The residents′deaths in the zone were increasing year after year from 2009 to 2013.The first five leading cau-ses of deaths were:circulatory diseases, respiratory diseases, malignant tumor, injuries and poisoning, and digestive diseases.The mortality on circulatory diseases was 0.327 8%among which cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disea-ses resulted in the highest mortality.The mortality from respiratory diseases was 0.064 1%, among which chronic ob-structive pulmonary disease resulted in the highest mortality.The death rate from malignant tumors was 0.142 5%, a-mong which lung cancer resulted in the highest mortality.The mortality from injuries and poisoning was 0.023 4%, among which traffic accidents resulted in the highest mortality.The death rate of digestive diseases was 0.021 2%, a-mong which cirrhosis combined with upper gastrointestinal bleeding resulted in the highest mortality.Conclusion The residents in the zone mainly die from chronic diseases such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and the death rate of chronic cor pulmonale in the circulatory disease ranks on the top.Owing to the population aging, the cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases have become the major non-communicable chronic diseases ( NCD) en-dangering health of the elderly population.
