Observation on the Efficacy of Acupuncture plus Cognitive Function Training in Treating Parkinson's Disease Dementia

Abstract: Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture plus cognitive function training in treating Parkinson's disease dementia.Methods Sixty Parkinson's disease dementia patients were randomly allocated to a treatment group and a control group, 30 cases each. The treatment group was intervened by acupuncture plus cognitive function training, and the control group by conventional drug treatment. The Mini-Mental Status Examination (MMSE) and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) were recorded in the two groups before and after the treatment. The therapeutic effects were compared between the two groups.Results The MMSE score and MoCA score were significantly changed after treatment in the two groups (P<0.05). There were significant post-treatment differences in the MMSE score and MoCA score between the treatment group and control group (P<0.05). The total effective rate was 90.0% in the treatment group versus 70.0% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant between the two groups (P<0.05).Conclusions Acupuncture plus cognitive function training can effectively improve the symptoms of Parkinson's disease dementia.
