Abstract:
Objective To investigate the value of Multi-slice Spiral CT Angiography (MSCTA)in diagnosis of superior mesenteric artery (SMA)diseases. Methods The image features of SMA diseases in 40 patients were reviewed retrospectively using volume rendering (VR),multiplanar reconstruction (MPR),curved planar reconstruction (CPR),maximum intensity projection and other post-processing reconstruction technique. Results 16 patients have SMA ischemia including 8 cases of SMA acute occlusion;1 case of acute occlusion with small intestinal ischemic necrosis who has had surgery to remove the necrotic intestine.8 cases of SMA chronic occlusion;10 cases of spontaneous isolated dissection of SMA;7 cases of true aneurysm of SMA;1 case of SMA pseudoaneurysm associating with infective endocarditic;3 cases of SMA ulcer, including 1 case of inferior mesenteric artery (IMA)severe stenosis;2 cases of severe stenosis of celiac trunk;1 case of occlusion of IMA. In total of 40 cases,13 were with collateral circulation associating with SMA diseases,of which 4 were SMA chronic occlusion,3 were SMA acute occlusion,1 was spontaneous isolated dissection of SMA,1 was SMA pseudoaneurysm,1 was IMA stenosis,1 was IMA occlusion and 2 were celiac trunk severe stenosis, which was included collateral circulation of the anterior and posterior arterial arcades in 3 cases, collateral circulation of the dorsal pancreatic artery in 2 cases,Riolan’s arcade in 10 cases. Conclusion MSCT could clearly display SMA diseases and the establishment of collateral circulation, and evaluate intestinal ischemia.
