Effect of peer-education on self-efficacy of hemodialysis patients

Abstract: Objective To explore the effect of peer-education on self-efficacy of hemodialysis(HD) patients. Methods Totally 90 HD patients were divided into two groups equally. The intervention group received peer-education for 3 months and the control group received routine nursing. The two groups were compared in terms of score on self-efficacy. Results There was no statistically significant difference in the score on self-efficacy and every item between the two groups before intervention (P>0.05). The score on self-efficacy and the items ofcontrol of depressive mood, the confidence in taking self-care measures, the confidence in doing other thingswere statistically significantly different between the two groups after intervention (P<0.05). Conclusion Peer-education can improve HD patient′s self-efficacy.
