Therapeutic Observation of Acupuncture plus Chinese Herbal Medicine for Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

Abstract:
Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture plus Chinese herbal medicine in treating nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.Method Totally 132 patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease were randomized into a treatment group of 67 cases and a control group of 65 cases. The treatment group was intervened by acupuncture plus Chinese herbal medicine, while the control group was by oral administration of Silibinin capsules. Liver function, blood lipid level, and type-B ultrasonic check were observed before and after intervention, and the clinical efficacies were compared.Result ALT and AST contents were changed significantly after intervention in both groups (P<0.01). There were no significant differences in comparing ALT and AST contents between the two groups after intervention (P>0.05). After intervention, TC, HDL, TG, and LDL contents were significantly changed in both groups (P<0.01,P<0.05). There were no significant differences in comparing TC, HDL, TG, and LDL contents between the two groups after intervention (P>0.05). The total effective rate was 95.5% in the treatment group versus 90.8% in the control group, and the difference was statistically insignificant (P>0.05).Conclusion Acupuncture plus herbal medication is an effective approach in treating nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, as it can improve liver function and down-regulate lipid level.
