Effect of structured preoperative instruction on anxiety and self-care compliance in elderly patients with cataract surgery

Abstract: Objective To investigate the effect of structured preoperative instruction on anxiety and self-care compliance in elder patients with cataract surgery.Methods Eighty patients over the age of 60 years undergoing cataract surgery were randomly assigned into experiment group and control group with 40 cases in each group. The experiment group received structured guidance preoperative intervention and the control group wtih routine care.SA(Self-Rating Anxiety Scale)and self-designed self-care compliance scale were used before and after interuention,postoperative patients’anxiety and self-care compliance were assessed 1d before and after surgery.Result There were significant differences between the two groups in the postoperative state anxiety (all P﹤0.01)and the postoperative self-care compliance score was higher than the control group.Conclusion Structured preoperative instruction reduces preoperative anxiety and improve compliance in elderly patients with senile cataract.
