Lidocaine for female patients during catheterization: A Meta-analysis

Abstract: Objective To systematically evaluate the effects of lidocaine on female patients during urinary catheterization.Methods A literature search was conducted in following databases as the Cochrane Library,EMbase,PubMed,CBM,CNKI,VIP,and Wanfang data.All included RCTs were screened and assessed according to the standard of Cochrane systematic review.The data were analyzed by RevMan 5.0 software.Results A total of 11 RCTs were included,involving 737 patients in the experimental group,666 patients in the control group.The results of Meta-analysis showed that there were significant differences between the two groups in the pain caused by intubation,one-time success rate of intubation,and agitation rate in anesthesia recovery period.Conclusions Using lidocaine for female patients before catheterization may reduce the pain,increase the one-time success rate of intubation,and reduce agitation rate in anesthesia recovery period.The results still need to be confirmed by more high-quality and large-sample RCTs.
