Abstract:
Aim:To analyze the aroma of species never investigated (Cinnamomum multiflorum and C. bejolghota) and to compare it with famous commercially important species in China (C. cassia).Methods:GC/MS was employed for the qualitative and quantitative analyses of diethyl ether-extracts of non-polar compounds from these three materials.Compounds were preliminarily identified by their mass spectra.Component relative concentrations were calculated based on GC peak areas. Results:The total 61 compounds were identified from these three materials.Monoterpene derivatives were the main compositions of C.multiflorum (53.18%) with higher concentration of cinnamaldehyde (29.57%) than that of Cinnamomum cassia (22.36%).Sesquiterpene and its derivatives were the major components of C.bejolghota (58.18%),and with the highest concentration of eugenol among those three materials. Conclusion:The chemical compositions of C. multiflorum and C. bejolghota proved their nutritional and medical basis for the first time. The results are also helpful to chemotaxonomy.
