Abstract:
Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of matrix metalloproteinase 3 (MMP-3) and adiponectin in synovial fluids of knee osteoarthritis (OA) patients. Methods Ninety knee OA patients (OA group) were divided into Ⅰ-Ⅳ grade by Kellgren-Lawrenee (KL)standard,in which 21 patients of grade Ⅰ,27 patients of grade Ⅱ,23 patients of grade Ⅲ,19 patients of grade Ⅳ.The level of MMP-3 and adiponectin in synovial fluids of knee OA patients and 40 patients with knee meniscus injury (control group) were detected by ELISA method. Results The level of MMP-3 and adiponectin in OA group were (27.57 ± 16.53),(144.04 + 48.01) ng/L,significantly higher than those in control group [(11.27 + 3.76),(86.05 + 28.52) ng/L] (t =6.153,8.638,P < 0.05).The level of MMP-3 and adiponectin in knee OA patients of Ⅰ-1Ⅳ grade were higher than those in control group, but the level of MMP-3 and adiponectin in knee OA patients of Ⅰ-Ⅱ grade had no significant difference compared with control group (P > 0.05),the level of MMP-3 and adiponectin in knee OA patients of Ⅲ-Ⅳ grade had significant difference compared with control group (P < 0.05).The level of MMP-3 was positively correlated with adiponectin (r =0.506,P <0.05).Conclusions The MMP-3 and adiponectin have abnormal expression in synovial fluids of knee OA patients. The abnormal expression is associated with occurrence and progression of knee OA.
