Abstract:
Objective To investigate the effects of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) on microvessel desity (MVD) and lymphatic microvessel density (LMVD) in locally advanced uterine cervical cancer (UCC).Methods Fifty specimens of UCC tissues who received NACT and twenty specimens of normal uterine cervical tissues were collected. The MVD and LMVD were examined by immunohistochemistry, and the clinical impact of NACT was analyzed. Results The MVD and LMVD in UCC tissues before NACT [(29.21 ± 3.69)% and (24.15 ± 4.12)%] were significantly higher than those in normal cervical tissues [(9.11 ± 2.81) % and (5.59 ± 1.08) %] (P < 0.05).The MVD and LMVD were significantly decreased after NACT [(21.14 ± 2.11)% and (17.24 ± 2.21)%] than before NACT (P < 0.05).The postoperative survival time in multiple vessels group (MVD > 21%,20 cases) and lymph vessels group (LMVD > 17%,23 cases) were significantly shorter than that in less vessels group (MVD ≤21%,29 cases) and lymph vessels group (LMVD ≤ 17%,26 cases)[(22.10 ± 6.25) months vs.(33.45 ± 8.11) months,(20.10 ± 4.12) months vs.(30.16 ±5.77) months,P <0.05].There was a negative correlation between the MVD and LMVD and postoperative survival times (r =-0.216,P =0.001 ;r =-0.126,P =0.009).Conclusion NACT can be helpful to reduce the MVD and LMVD,and has some effect on improving short-term treatment effect and long-term survivals.
