Abstract: Objective To analyze the clinical characteristics,treatment and prognosis of primary esophageal small cell carcinoma (PESC).Methods Fifty-five patients with PESC were analyzed retrospectively.The survival rate was calculated by the Kaplan-Meier method and the Log-rank test using SPSS 17.0 software.Results The median survival time of 55 patients was 12 months.The 6,12,24.36months survival rates of these patients were 87.3 ％ (48/55),50.9 ％ (32/55),12.7 ％ (7/55),7.3 ％ (4/55),respectively.In multivariate analysis,stage and type of treatment were shown to be independent predictive.Conclusion PESC is a malignant tumor with early metastasis and poor prognosis.Combined therapy may improve the survival time of PESC patients.
