Abstract:
Objective: To study alexithymia and coping style of patients with alcoholic psychosis. Method: 40 inpatients with alcoholic psychosis and 49 normal control were assessed by TAS (Toronto Alexithymia Scale) and CS (Coping Style). Result: The total and factor scores of TAS were higher in patient group than in normal control. Fancy-lacking was a feature of patient group. Patients had less score in problem-oriented coping, assertion, rational processing and control ability than normal control, while they had higher score in affective palliative, support seeking, emotional processing and resignation. There was positive correlation between factor 2 of TAS and sensitization, control of CS; negative correlation between factor 2 of TAS and resignation of CS. Conclusion: Patients with alcoholic psychosis have alexithymia, they are more dependent and incline to emotional problem solving, which related to their poor ability of and attitude to internal emotion, and their somatization feeling.
