Abstract:
The study was conducted in 4 wards of Thai Binh city, included 1,089 people aged 30-70, using blood glucose tests (fasting glucose test and the oral glucose tolerance test). Diabetes was classified according to WHO criteria. Frequency of consumed food in the prior month was identified through interviews. Findings showed that the diabetes prevalence among people aged 30-70 in Thai Binh city was 5.8%; impaired OGT rate was found in 6.9% and abnormal fasting glucose test was found in 2.9%. These rates increased significantly with age. Four risk factors for OGT were common intake of sugar/sweets, common intake of noodles, common intake of fat/vegetable oil.
