Abstract:
Objective To investigate the relationship between the expression of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP-3)and degree of invasion and lymph node metastasis. Methods 60 paraffin-embedded samples of gastric cancer and para-cancer from surgically resected tissues were selected,15 biopsied endoscopically samples of chronic surface gastritis were served as controls. The expression of MMP-3 proteins were examined by immunohistochemical method. Results Positive expression rates of MMP-3 in samples from cancerous tissue was 60.0%,those of MMP-3in matched para-cancer tissues was 16.7% ,the positive expression rates of cancerous tissue was significantly higher than those of para-cancer tissue(P <0.05).The expression of MMP-3 correlated statistically with the lymph node metastasis and cancer stage. There was high significant relationship among the MMP-3 protein expression(P <0.05 ).The lymph node metastasis rate of tissues with positive expression of two or more parameters was significantly higher than tissues with positive expression of only one or none parameter(P <0.05).Conclusion There was significant correlation between MMP-3 expression degree and gastric cancer staging and lymph node metastasis.MMP-3 expression degree is a valuable index for the judgment of gastric cancer stage and metastasis.
