Results of malaria survey and treatment efficacy of sulfadoxine/pyrimethamine (SR2) in Thanh commune, Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province

Abstract:
There were 1.000 people (accounting for 43% of population) received blood slide examination in Thanh commune, Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province, from 10/10/2002 to 15/12/2002. Of which 170 people got malaria parasites with 84 cases of single P.falciparum infection, 46 cases of single P.vavax infection and 40 cases of mix infection P.vivax + P.falciparum. The rate of malaria infection in children under 14 years old was high (67.6%). The cure rate of 51 patients with uncomplicated P.falciparum malaria received SR2 ( a single dose of 25mg sulfadoxine + 1.25 mg pyrimethamine/kg) by day 28 was 87.7%. In this survey, 532 people were received Paracheck-Pf and bloot slides examination by microscope. The results showed that 101 cases were found to be positive(+) with Paracheck-Pf. Of which 87 cases (86.1%) with P.falciparum were found by blood slide examination and 14 cases (13.9%) were negative
