The changes and clinical significance of plasma B-type natriuretic peptide in the elderly patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation

Abstract: Objective To study the relationship between plasma B-type natriuretic peptide(BNP) and the elderly patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods The levels of plasma BNP in period of attack and cardioversion of the elderly patients with (AF)( n=45) were measured by immunofluorescence method ,and the tert results were compared with the healthy control group ( n = 30). Echocardiography was used to measure LAD and LVEF. Results The levels of plasma BNP in period of attack and cardioversion of AF group were significant higher than that in control group (P < 0. 05 ), and the period of attack was significant higher than that in the period of cardioversion(P < 0. 05); LVEF, LAD in period of attack and cardioversion of AF group were significant higher than that in control group(P < 0. 05). Conclusion High concentrations of plasma BNP level may promote the attack of AF,and they are associated closely with atrial remodeling and cardiac function.
