Evaluation of the significance of psychological intervention on elderly patients in urology department of primary hospital

Abstract: Objective To evaluate the significance of psychological intervention on elderly patients in urology department of primary hospital. Methods 60 patients in urology department of our hospital were selected from January to December, 2009, and were randomly divided into the observation group and control group with 30 patients in each group. The control group was given conventional treatment and care, the observation group received psychological interventions based on conventional care. Scores of self-rating anxiety scale(SAS), self-rating depression scale (SDS), the amount of Likert questionnaire score of the two groups underwent comparison. Results After treatment, anxiety and depression condition was much better in the observation group than the control group, the overall satisfaction rate in the observation group was 83.33%, much higher than the control group, 50.00%. Concluslons Psychological intervention is effective in treatment of the elderly patients in urology department,which should be applied in clinical practice.
