Evaluation of the use of antimalarials in the application of therapeutic regimen at district level in Dien Bien province

Abstract:
410 medical records (201 of which at district hospitals and 209 at commune health stations) were studied. Results: the rate of correct diagnosis of clinical malaria at district level was 69.6%, the rate of incorrect diagnosis was still high (30.4%). Among mistakes of clinical diagnosis, the most common is that blood culturing for P.falciparum was done once only, did not have the blood culturing before treatment, did not have exclusion of other reasons caused fever. Mistakes of dosage and duration of treatment course were 10.9% and 18.9%, respectively. The regimen of artesunat tablet had the highest incorrect rate (13.4%). The drug combination rate was 58.8% of patients with positive serum P.falciparum and in 11.4% of patients with clinical malaria. There were 35.3% of the cases used antibiotics (most of them were beta-lactam) in combination with antimalarial drugs in the patients with positive serum P.falciparum, the rate was 47.8% in the patients with clinical malaria
