Abstract:
Kampo medicine is still widely recognized as an unestablished science, probably due to the many university based medical researchers who appraise “Kampo medicine as a science, not.” This significantly hampers the dissemination of Kampo medicine, and limits many beleaguered patients who it would seem could benefit from Kampo remedies. Proving that Kampo medicine is a science should be promoted in earnest. Here, to make clear the purpose and definition of its science from a viewpoint of scientific philosophy, the author focuses on sho or “evidence for”, a major theme in Kampo medicine. In this way, Kampo can be seen as a determinable science.
