- Abstract: A case of malignant hyperthermia manifested by precipitous rise in body temperature, metabolic acidosis and muscular rigidity in a 48 year old farmer with bronchogenic carcinoma after thoracotomy under nitrous oxide-oxygen-halothane-succinylcholine anesthesia has been presented. Despite all strenuous supportive measures, the patient expired 11 (1/2) hours following the surgery. The importance of early recognition and vigorous treatment has been stressed.
