Abstract:
The author performed phenolsulphonephthalein excretion test in 95 normal Korean subjects. Five fractional method was used in 85 cases and ten fractional method in ten cases. The following conclusions were obtained. 1) By the five fractional method during the period of two hours, intravenously injected phenolsulphonephthalein was excreted: 43.4 +/- 6.69 % at 15 minutes, 60.1 +/- 7.02 % at 30 minutes, 73.5 +/- 6.89 % at 60 minutes, 79.2 +/- 6.71 % at 90 minutes and 82.1 +/- 6.53 % at 120 minutes, after the injection, respectively. 2) By the ten fractional mehod during the period of three hours, intravenously injected phenolsulphonephthalein was excreted: 15.7 +/- 2.75 % at 5 minutes, 36.4 +/- 2.91 % at 10 minutes, 45.9 +/- 3.37 % at 15 minutes, 53.6 +/- 2.45 % at 20 minutes, 58.7+/- 2.56 % at 25 minutes, 62.9 +/- 2.44 % at 30 minutes, 76.5 +/- 3.29% at 60 minutes, 82.4 +/- 3.90 % at 90 minutes, 86.0 +/- 4.45 % at 120 minutes, and 88.9 +/- 5.34 % at 180 minutes, after the injection, respectively. As shown above approximately a half of injected phenolsulphonephthalein is excreted in the first 20 minutes after the injection, and, thus, determination of the output of the dye at five minutes interval for the first 20 minutes would give a more detailed information in the renal excretory function. 3) The results of this study for phenolsulphonephthalein test is similar to other investigation.
