- Abstract: Schwannomas of the small bowel are very rare, accounting for fewer than 1% of all neoplasm of the gastrointestinal tract, and appendiceal schwannoma is extremely rare. We report a case of appendiceal schwannoma arising in the mid portion of the appendix. A 46-year-old woman was admitted due to intermittent nausea, vomitting and right flank pain via emergency room. Preoperative abdominal ultrasonogram, CT, MRI scan demonstrated 3.5 cm sized, round intraperitoneal mass in right lower quardrant of abdomen. Appendectomy was done and the mass was diagnosed as schwannoma on immunohistochemical stain. The patient followed up and no evidence of specific complication or recurrence was noted.
