Abstract:
Meningitis is rare in the newborn baby, it often is cause by acute otitis media. From 1991-1995, 7 patients had been treated in National ENT Institute. Clinical features:- high fever, vomiting, Kernig, Brudinski sign in the newborn baby.- Otitic signs: otorrhea from middle ear and a defect of the tympanic membrane. X-ray with schuller film can help diagnosis.- Diagnosis is made by lumbar puncture revealing cells, protein increased. Treatment: surgery; simple mastoidectomy medicine: cephalosporin II,III generation and metronidazole. Conclusion and prognosis: perfect results in National ENT Institute
