Abstract:
A cross-sectional survey was carried out to identify malnutrition rate in children under 5 years old and to find out some risk factors. The results showed that the percentage of malnutrition with underweight is 34.7%, stunting is 38.7% and wasting is 11%. In the mountainous and midland areas the rates are higher than in the delta and coastal area. Malnutrition is common in households with young primipares (under 22 years old) and with several children. Nutritional knowledge of the mother is very low. Only 9.3% of the children were exclusively breast fed during their first 4 months of life. 33.5% of children under 24 months were given weaning food too early.
