- Abstract: The author experienced 3 cases of uveal effusion. The condition occurred bilaterally in a 48 year-old female and a 46 year-old male, and unilaterally in a 47 yearold male. Ophthalmoscopic examination revealed a nonrhegmatogenous bullous detachment of the retina. The subretinal fluid moved freely according to the head position in all cases. Fluorescein angiography showed several areas of subretinal leakage around the posterior pole in one case and none in the other 2 cases. Cerebrospinal fluid protein was elevated without pleocytosis in 2 cases. Analysis of subretinal fluid in 2 cases revealed a protein content more than 2 times that in plasma. Argon laser photocoagulation was applied to the areas of fluorescein leakage but was unsuccessful in causing lasting resolution of the detachment. In one case, partial thickness sclerectomies in lower nasal and temporal quadrants were made near the equator with drainage of subretinal fluid. The retina was reattached about a half year after operation.
