Abstract:
Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a malignant epithelial neoplasm of typical histologic features and biologic behavior. It most often arises in the major and minor salivary glands of the head and neck, but has been noted in the trachea, lung, breast and elsewhere. Its biologic behavior is characterized by slow but aggressive growth with multiple local recurrences and frequent distant metastases, often over a period of years. Lung is the most common site of metastasis followed by bone, brain and liver. Herein, we report a solitary renal metastasis of ACC which occurred 8 years after successful extirpation of the primary tumor in minor salivary gland.
