Abstract:
Purpose:To determine suicidal ideation in adult one-person households and to identify factors affecting suicidal ideation.
Methods:A total of 19,016 adult one-person households were selected and analyzed using the 2021 community health survey. Rao-Scott x2 test was conducted to evaluate differences in demographic characteristics, health behavior, and mental health according to suicidal ideation.
Results:Of all subjects, 10% had suicidal ideation. The following factors were found to significantly influence suicidal ideation of participants in this study: gender (OR: 1.15, p<.001), age (OR: 1.27, p=.032), education (OR: 0.75, p=.027), monthly household income (OR: 0.64, p<.001), life satisfaction (OR: 8.95, p<.001), subjective health status (OR: 1.98, p<.001), depression experience (OR: 6.93, p<.001), and perceived stress (OR: 1.81, p<.001).
Conclusion:It is necessary to develop various programs aimed at enhancing life satisfaction and manage mental health such as depression and stress, which are main influencing factors of suicidal ideation in adult one-person households. In addition, active attention to mental health of adult one-person households is continuously needed.
