Relation of suicidal ideation to parent-child attachment,peer attachment and meaning in life among college students

Abstract:
Objective:To explore the relationship between suicidal ideation and parent-child attachment in col-lege students,and the roles of peer attachment and meaning in life.Methods:Totally 1 137 college students were se-lected.The Positive and Negative Suicidal Ideation(PANSI)was used to evaluate suicidal ideation,Revised Inven-tory of Parent and Peer Attachment(IPPA-R)was used to evaluate parent-child attachment and peer attachment,and Meaning in Life Questionnaire(MLQ)was used to evaluate meaning in life.Results:The scores of father-child attachment,mother-child attachment,peer attachment,presence of meaning and seeking for meaning were negatively correlation with the scores of suicidal ideation(r=-0.51--0.19,Ps<0.001).The mediating effects of peer at-tachment and presence of meaning and the chain mediating effects were-0.08,-0.16 and-0.04,respectively,accounting for 13.83%,25.83%and 6.17%of the total effects.Conclusion:Parent-child attachment may be asso-ciated with suicidal ideation in college students,and suicidal ideation could be reduced by improving the quality of peer relationship and enhancing the presence of meaning.
