Abstract:
Diabetic retinopathy(DR)is a microvascular lesion in diabetes mellitus(DM),which is the main cause of irreversible blindness.The prevalence of DR increases as the number of DM patients increases.Due to limited treatment options,the overall cure rate is low.Mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR)plays an important role in the occurrence and development of diabetic retinopathy as a hyperglycemic sensor.This article reviews the research progress on the role of mTOR signaling pathway in DR.
