Abstract:
Amygdala plays a crucial role in emotion. This article introduces several problems of the current study of amygdala: the relationship between amygdala and basic emotions and social emotions; whether activity of amygdala is elicited by valence or by arousal; the contribution of awareness to the activation of amygdala; the functional asymmetries of the left and right amygdala. In addition, some possible reasons of the disputes are discussed mainly concerning the constructional complexity of amygdala and the differences among research paradigms. The purpose of the article is to summarize the amygdala research in emotion and provide some useful references for the future study.
