Abstract: Self-management helps patients alleviate the impact of disease on their social functions, emotions, and interpersonal relationships. This article provides an overview of the origin, key components, and current application of Individual and Family Self-Management Theory in clinical nursing. Based on this overview, the article presents future directions to enhance the understanding of this theory among Chinese nursing personnel and to further promote its application in nursing practice in China.
