Abstract:
Objective To investigate the feasibility of using a sitting aldosterone renin ratio (ARR) instead of a standing ARR to screen for primary aldosteronism (PA) in hypertensive patients. Methods From April to July 2017, 63 hypertensive patients admitted to the Department of Hypertension of Fuwai Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences were selected as subjects by convenient sampling. During the hospitalization, the patients performed two position tests on different days. On the first day, the patients were asked to keep the standing and walking position for 2 hours, and the standing blood samples were taken. The next day, the patients were asked to keep the sitting position for 2 hours and then take the blood samples. Comparing ARR results for both body position measurements. Results A total of 62 patients successfully completed the study. There were no significant differences in peripheral blood ARR results between the sitting and standing position of patients with same age groups and genders (P> 0.05). Conclusions The sitting position ARR does not affect the PA test results. It is recommended to use the sitting position ARR for PA screening in clinical practice, which can help reduce the incidence of adverse reactions and interruption events.
