Abstract:
Objective? To explore the effects of nursing intervention based on Maslow's hierarchy of needs in rectal cancer patients with colostomy. Methods? From October 2016 to September 2017, we selected 86 rectal cancer patients with colostomy in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University as subjects by convenience sampling. According to the order of being admitted to hospital, patients being treated form October 2016 to March 2017 were in control group (n=43); patients being treated form April 2017 to September 2017 were in observation group (n=43). Control group received routine nursing intervention, while observation group carried out nursing intervention based on Maslow's hierarchy of needs. The intervention effects were evaluated with the health belief scale and the self-management behavior questionnaire for rectal cancer patients with colostomy. Results? After intervention, the total score and dimension scores of the health belief scale of patients in observation group were higher than those in control group with statistical differences (P＜0.01);besides, the total score and dimension scores of the self-management behavior questionnaire in observation group were also higher than those in control group with statistical differences (P＜ 0.01). Conclusions? Nursing intervention based on Maslow's hierarchy of needs can effectively improve the health belief and self-management behavior of rectal cancer patients with colostomy. It is worth to be used widely in clinical application.
