Abstract:
Objective To investigate the current situation of shame and coping styles among postmenopausal pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) patients and to explore the effect of shame on their coping styles. Methods From December 2016 to August 2017, we selected 250 postmenopausal PFD patients at the 2nd Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University as subjects by convenience sampling. All of the patients were investigated with the Chinese Version of Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire (MCMQ) and the Shame Scale (SS). A total of 250 questionnaires were sent out and 235 valid questionnaires were collected. Results The total score of SS of 235 postmenopausal PFD patients was (85.14±10.24) higher than domestic norm with a statistical difference (P< 0.05). The total score of MCMQ of postmenopausal PFD patients was (53.62±1.76). Pearson correlation analysis showed that shame of postmenopausal PFD patients had a negative correlation with the score of confrontation (P< 0.05), and had positive correlations with the scores of avoidance and yield (P< 0.05). Behavioral shame, physical shame and family shame were factors influencing the scores of coping styles in postmenopausal PFD patients. Conclusions Postmenopausal PFD patients are with the high level of shame and with the negative coping styles. The shame is the influencing factor of the positive coping style. Nurses should pay attention to pelvic floor rehabilitation education, encourage patients to copy with disease positively.
