Abstract:
Objective To explore the effects of standardized management of cancer pain on the quality of life and pain outcome in tumor patients. Methods A total of 104 tumor patients admitted in the Department of Oncology of People's Hospital Affiliated to Hubei University of Medicine, from August 2016 to August 2017 were selected by convenient sampling and randomized divided into control group (n=52) and observation group (n=52). The control group received conventional pain management, whereas the observation group received standardized management of cancer pain. The Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core 30 (QLQ-C30) and the American Pain Society Patient Outcome Questionnaire-Medified (APS-POQ-Medified) were used to evaluate the patients on the date of admission and 3 months post intervention. Results There was no significant difference in the QLQ-C30 and APS-POQ-Medified scores between the two groups (P>0.05) at admission. The observation group showed higher scores in the dimensions of function and overall quality of life while lower scores in the dimension of symptom than the control group (P<0.05); and the observation group showed better scores in terms of the four indicators of pain outcome than the control group (P<0.05).Conclusions Standardized management of cancer pain can mitigate the pain of tumor patients, change their pain outcomes and improve their quality of life.
