Effects of individualized preoperative bowel preparation regimen on intestinal cleansing in patients with cervical cancer

Abstract:
Objective To investigate the effects of individualized preoperative bowel preparation regimen on intestinal cleansing in patients with cervical cancer. Methods Totally 140 patients who were admitted and diagnosed with cervical cancer in the Department of Oncology of Wuxi Maternal and Child Care Hospital from January 2016 to May 2017 were selected by convenient sampling and randomly divided into a control group and an experimental group by drawing method. Finally, totally 67 patients in each group completed the experiment. Routine preoperative bowel preparation was adopted for patients in the control group, while individualized bowel preparation regimen was adopted for patients in the experimental group, including evaluation before medication, activity guidance for patients with different ages, control of medication speed and response to untoward effects. The intestinal cleansing, untoward effects, time of first defecation and total time of defecation were compared between the patients in the two groups. The rank-sum test, χ2 test and t test were used to analyze the data for the patients in the two groups. Results There was statistically significant difference in the degree of intestinal cleansing between the patients in the two groups (Z=-2.732, P< 0.05); there was statistically significant difference in the degree of nausea and vomiting between the patients in the two groups (Z=-2.065, P< 0.05); there was statistically significant difference in the degree of abdominal distension between the patients in the two groups (Z=-2.526, P<0.05); and there was statistically significant difference in the incidence of stomachache between the patients in the two groups (χ2=5.835, P< 0.05). The time of first defecation and the total time of defecation of the patients in the experimental group was shorter than that of the patients in the control group (t=-3.901,-6.689; P<0.01). Conclusions The individualized preoperative bowel preparation for patients with cervical cancer can improve the intestinal cleansing, shorten the time of defecation and reduce untoward effects such as abdominal distension and stomachache in these patients.
