Correlations among rumination, self-efficacy and post-traumatic growth in hyperlipemia and severe acute pancreatitis patients

Abstract:
Objective To investigate the rumination, self-efficacy and post-traumatic growth in hyperlipemia and severe acute pancreatitis (HLAP) patients and to explore the correlations among them. Methods From December 2014 to December 2016, 78 HLAP inpatients of Ningbo First Hospital were selected as subjects by convenience sampling. All of the patients were investigated with the Chinese Version of Event Related Rumination Inventory (C-ERRI), the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI) and the General Self-Efficacy Scale. And then, the data was collected and statistical analysis was carried out. Pearson correlation was used to analyze the correlations among them. Results The scores of rumination, self-efficacy and post-traumatic growth of 78 HLAP patients were (30.94±13.14), (2.42±0.43) and (60.70±11.55) respectively. The higher average score of C-ERRI was (1.65±0.47) in purposive rumination. The highest average score of PTGI was (3.68±0.77) and (3.36±0.80) in new possibilities and appreciations for life respectively. Pearson correlation showed that the total score of rumination was positively associated with the total scores of self-efficacy and post-traumatic growth (r=0.746, 0.723;P< 0.05), the total score of invasive rumination had negative correlations with the total scores of self-efficacy and post-traumatic growth (r=-0.627, -0.783;P< 0.05), the total score of purposive rumination had positive correlations with the total scores of self-efficacy and post-traumatic growth (r=0.662, 0.673; P<0.05) in HLAP patients. Conclusions There are correlations among rumination, self-efficacy and post-traumatic growth in HLAP patients. The formulation of effective measures for improving patients' level of rumination may rise patients' confidence in overcoming disease and promote disease recovery.
