Quality of life in schizophrenia patients' spouses of Uighur and Han nationality in Xinjiang

Abstract:
Objective To explore the quality of life in schizophrenia patients' spouses of Uighur and Han nationality in Xinjiang province.Methods A total of 198 spouses of schizophrenia patients and 220 spouses of healthy people were collected. The general investigation form and living quality comprehensive questionnaire were used to investigate the quality of life in the participants.Results The total score of living quality in schizophrenia patients' spouses was significantly lower compared with the healthy counterparts [(57.93±1.79) vs (67.42±9.81);t=8.98,P<0.05]. There were no significant differences in the total score of living quality between different nationalities (t=0.08,P>0.05). However,Uighur spouses had significantly more concerns of unsatisfied hospitalization and less fear of accidents compared with Han spouses [(13.99±3.33) vs (10.41±2.45) for concerns of unsatisfied hospitalization;(10.54±2.07) vs (13.81±2.53) for fear of accidents;t=2.59,2.75;P<0.05].Conclusions The spouses of schizophrenia patients of Uighur and Han nationality have a worse quality of life compared with the healthy counterparts and need more public concerns.
