Abstract:
Objective To explore the correlation between the psychological empowerment and occupational burnout of nursing students in clinical practice. Methods Totally 395 nursing students from 5 nursing schools who had graduation practice in 13 general hospitals in Shanghai between February and May 2015 were selected by cluster sampling, and investigated with nursing burnout scale (NBS) and psychological empowerment scale (PES).Results The 395 nursing students' burnout score and psychological empowerment score were (135.31±21.74) and (3.56±0.65), respectively, with a moderate level; Nursing burnout was negatively correlated with meaning at work, self-efficacy and psychological empowerment (r=-0.140, -0.127, -0.101;P<0.05).Conclusions Clinical teaching should attach importance to nursing students' perception of psychological empowerment, and creates a favorable environment for them to foster psychological empowerment, thus reducing occupational burnout.
