Abstract:
Objective To investigate the unmet information needs and similarities and differences of degree and dimension among patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) with different characteristics so as to provide scientific evidences for those patients. Methods A total of 93 patients undergoing HSCT in laminar flow cabin were studied using normal information and INAS questionnaires. The associations of different characteristics and information needs as well as their dimensions were analyzed using Poisson linear regression models. Results Levels of information needs of patients undergoing HSCT in laminar flow cabin ranged from middle to high, among which female patients and patients with high incomes were high-risk groups of information needs. Patients without religious beliefs had more needs for disease diagnosis than those with religious beliefs. Non-malignant hematological patients had more needs for physical health dimension and social health dimension than malignant hematological patients. Conclusions HSCT patients in laminar flow cabin have high levels of information needs. It indicates that individually information support based on personal characteristics and differences is necessary and important.
