Multi spiral CT features of Xp11.2 translocation/TFE-3 gene fusion-associated renal cell carcinoma and literature review

Abstract:
Objective To investigate the multi spiral computed tomography(MSCT)features of Xp11.2 translocation/TFE-3 gene fusion-associated renal cell carcinoma(RCC).Methods The clinical data,CT findings and pathological features of 8 patients with Xp11.2 translocation/TFE-3 gene fusion-associated RCC were analyzed retrospectively,and the related literatures were reviewed.Plain and triphasic enhanced scans were performed in all 8 patients.Results Eight patients were adults with solitary lesions,5 in the right kidney and 3 in the left kidney.Only cortex or medulla was involved in 3 cases,both cortex and medulla were involved in 5 cases.Pseudocapsule was found in all 8 cases and incomplete in 6 cases.Plain CT scan:5 cases were mixed with equal or slightly high density,3 cases were mixed with slightly high density.Cystic degeneration and necrosis were found in the center of the lesions in 8 cases.Bleeding was seen in 3 cases.Calcification was found in 7 cases,small gritty calcification in 6 cases and small patchy calcification in 3 cases.The distribution of calcification was irregular.CT enhancement:3 cases of solid components showed mild to moderate delayed enhance-ment,medullary phase peak,5 cases of most of the solid components showed mild to moderate delayed enhancement,the small part of the performance of"fast in and fast out"type of enhancement,and the small part of the enhancement were mostly distributed around the tumor.Immunohistochemistry:TFE-3(+)in 8 cases,CD10(+)in 7 cases,Vim(+)in 7 cases,KSP(+)in 7 cases.Conclusion The CT features of Xp11.2 translocation/TFE-3 gene fusion-associated RCC are remarkable.Mastering its MSCT features can effectively improve the preoperative diagnostic accuracy.
