Abstract:
Objective To explore the levels of resilience, coping style of family members of patients with colorectal carcinoma,as well as their uncertainty in illness, and explicit the relationships among the three variables. Methods The general questionnaire,Mishel Uncertainty In Illness Scale-Family Member Form,Connor-Davidson Resilience scale and the Simple Coping Style questionnaire were used to investigate 472 family members of patients with colorectal carcinoma from four tertiary hospitals in Harbin from June 2014 to May 2016.Results The negative coping style and resilience were significantly correlated to family members' uncertainty in illness (P<0.05 for both). Moreover, their uncertainty in illness can be predicted directly by negative coping style (β= 0.37,P<0.05),and predicted indirectly via resilience (β= 0.25,P<0.05). Conclusions Effective measures should be taken by medical workers to change the way family members deal with cancer and enhance their resilience so as to reduce their uncertainty in illness,to promote their physical and mental health.
